Tuck Looks Toward the Class of 2023 with Few Changes for the Admissions Cycle Ahead

Tuck’s 2020 – 2021 MBA application will open on June 30 and will include the addition of a rolling Round 4 to give more prospective students time to apply.

Steady and unwavering in its commitment to an applicant-friendly experience, Tuck Admissions has set its 2020-2021 deadlines and introduced only minor changes for the cycle ahead.

“Applicants will be able to draw confidence and strength from the stability of Tuck’s clear and transparent criteria, essays, and approach to MBA admissions,” says Luke Anthony Peña, executive director of admissions and financial aid. “While the global pandemic and fight for racial justice have necessitated much change in the world, the characteristics and attributes of aspiring wise, decisive leaders and how we evaluate their applications to Tuck remains the same.”

One modification introduced during the spring of 2020 that will continue: the School’s rolling Round 4 deadline and decision period. Peña says the rolling fourth round turned out to be helpful to applicants who felt they needed more time to apply.

Discerning applicants will notice a slight evolution in the School’s criteria. The core of Tuck’s criteria and the descriptions thereof are the same as year’s past, but nuance has been added to their headings as to better align with the School’s mission, vision and strategy statements. The additions provide descriptive richness about how Tuck students conduct themselves.

“Through our criteria we invite students to share who they are, what they’ve done, where they are going, and how they intend to get there,” explains Peña. “We’ve added language to the headings of our criteria to help applicants better understand and demonstrate the qualities we seek.”

“Not only are our students smart, but they are also curious and engaged. Nice most certainly describes Tuck students but in terms of action, it means our students are encouraging, collaborative, and empathetic. So we’ve made slight refinements to add richness and depth to our four core criteria while preserving their simplicity and accessibility.”

Tuck’s essays continue to map directly to the criteria, and the three prompts for the 2020 – 2021 admissions cycle are the same as last year.

As public health guidance and travel restrictions will limit campus visits through at least the fall, Tuck Admissions has suspended applicant-initiated interviews for the 2020 – 2021 cycle. All interviews will be committee-initiated, and yet the School will guarantee an interview invitation for all applicants who submit their complete application by September 1, 2020. Committee-initiated interviews will continue virtually and Peña assures prospective students that the team is working on fresh and creative ways for applicants to get to know Tuck, and its campus, from wherever they are in the world.

“In addition to our robust schedule of online events, we are building new interactive tools for applicants to be able to explore Tuck’s spaces remotely,” he says. “And Tuck’s greatest asset, our community, is as enthusiastic as ever about connecting with and getting to know prospective students for the Class of 2023.”
