Members of the Tuck community reflect on their goals, accomplishments, inspirations, and passions as part of the Many Voices, One Tuck series in honor of Black Legacy Month.
What’s something about you that only a few people know?
Many people see me as choleric, goal-driven, serious, and disciplined. While I may embody some of these traits, a few people in my circle understand that I am much friendlier than I appear, loving, and deeply understanding. Though my upbringing and background have shaped me into a high-achieving, focused man, I am also very playful and happy, and I genuinely love being around and serving others. I hope that more people get to see and know the side of me.
How would you describe your life philosophy? What do you believe are the components of a “good” life? How do you define “success”?
A good life means different things to different people, shaped by the mindsets we develop along our journeys. To me, success isn’t a single destination—it evolves over time and falls into three key areas:
My relationship with God: Above all, success means nurturing a deep and continuous relationship with God. This includes making time to seek Him, study His word, and grow spiritually. It’s about aligning my life and actions with His teachings and ensuring that those around me experience the joy and blessings that flow from my faith.
Family and friendships: True success is found in the peace and joy I share with my wife, as well as the love we extend to our parents, siblings, and friends. While I was fortunate to come from a great home, I’ve come to appreciate that maintaining a strong marriage and meaningful relationships is a blessing—one that many overlook as part of a ‘good life.’
Purpose and impact: I believe every person is meant to do something meaningful with their time on earth. To me, success is looking back decades from now and saying, “Yes, I pursued the right things.” It’s about achieving dreams—whether landing a fulfilling job, writing a book, reaching the peak of a career, or accomplishing a major goal. More importantly, true success isn’t just about achieving milestones—it’s about finding deep fulfillment within them.
In your opinion, what makes a good leader?
I have known some truly great leaders, and many things make them exceptional. In my opinion, three key traits define them:
A heart for service and collaboration: I don’t believe anyone can be a great leader if they’re unwilling to work with others. Achieving a great goal requires a team. Beyond teamwork, a leader must also embrace service—taking responsibility for their actions and being willing to step up when needed.
Vision: Leadership is about having a clear vision. A leader must know where they are headed before asking others to join the journey. While others may help refine the vision or find better ways to achieve it, the responsibility ultimately falls on the leader to define the destination.
Effective communication: Every leader must be able to articulate their vision so clearly that others not only understand it but also embrace it as their own. Great leaders inspire action simply by sharing their vision in a way that resonates with those around them.
What have you recently read, watched, or listened to that you enjoyed and would highly recommend to others?
I enjoy reading several books, and lately, my reads have been more faith and family-focused. However, a few finance books I found insightful are:
The Barefoot Investor by Scott Pape: This book practically took away my fears of investing in the stock market. And honestly, it paid off. My portfolio has seen over a 55% YOY increase in the past two years. So yes, it was definitely helpful.
Kings of Crypto by Jeff Roberts: I had invested a little in crypto at some point, and reading this book gave me a better understanding of the trends and how everything works. Not that I’m actively investing there now, but it was a great read on the origins and evolution of the space.
Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker: Another solid read on mindset and wealth-building. Highly recommend!
