During 2024, Dean Alderucci served Congress as a senior advisor for artificial intelligence, supporting a bipartisan task force developing strategies and legislative measures for AI policy. He was also appointed by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) for a two-year term to the Federal Advisory Committee for GSA’s Acquisition Policy, whose mission is to drive innovation in federal procurement and advise on reforms to implement AI and other technological considerations in the federal acquisition process.
Dean serves as director of research for the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Patent Analysis at Carnegie Mellon University. His work involves creating software systems that automate complex tasks performed by knowledge-intensive workers, such as lawyers, regulators, and domain experts. He advises organizations on AI strategy and on creating new AI tools customized to business areas and tasks.
Dean previously served as COO and chief IP counsel for a global financial services firm and as chief counsel for a business incubator. He is an inventor on over 300 US patents and a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors.
